KLU student Katharina Bauer takes home bronze at European Indoor Hockey Championship

KLU sport scholarship holder Katharina Bauer and the Austrian national women’s team took home bronze at the European Indoor Hockey Championship in Berlin. In the third-place playoff match, the team beat Spain 3:1. The German team took home the title thanks to a 3:2 win against Poland.

The disappointment over losing to the German team in the semifinals quickly changed to elation about winning bronze. “Our goal was to win a medal, and that’s just what we did – I’m very happy,” said Katharina Bauer after the third-place playoff. “This tournament was a great experience and, especially for us young players, a big step in our personal development for the years to come. I’m grateful to KLU for giving me the freedom to pursue my sport as part of the scholarship program.”

The winning German team celebrated their 17th European Indoor Hockey Championship title in women’s hockey – and included five of Katharina Bauer’s teammates on Hamburg’s HTHC club, which plays in the Bundesliga: “To beat Germany in the semifinals, everything would have had to go absolutely perfect for us. So, I’d like to congratulate my HTHC teammates on winning the title, which they surely deserved,” says Katharina.

KLU is an official “Partner University of Professional Sports,” based on an agreement with the German University Sports Federation and the Olympic Center Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein.

As part of this cooperation, KLU offers professional athletes special financial and organizational conditions, allowing them to optimally combine their studies and sports activities. In addition to full-ride and partial scholarships and discounts, these include personal and individual advising and flexible, tailor-made solutions throughout their studies.

KLU also supports international athletes. Katharina Bauer is currently in the second semester of her Bachelor’s in Business Administration and, as a member of the Austrian national hockey team, a KLU sport scholarship holder.
